Ready-Made AI Website Prompts: What to Check and Change Before You Build

A ready-made website prompt describes someone else's example: their brand name, copy, fonts, colours and often their media files. It gets you to a polished layout quickly, but before you publish you need to replace every piece that is not yours and check what the tool built. This checklist covers what to change.

What is usually inside a detailed website prompt?

We counted what the 77 prompts in our own website pack specify. On 28 October 2026:

• The median prompt is about 800 words long; the shortest is under 100 and the longest over 2,400.
• 73 name specific fonts and 52 give exact hex colours.
• 66 specify React with Tailwind CSS, and 45 also name Vite.
• All 77 describe animation or motion.
• 71 point to media files hosted on other websites, used to reproduce the preview.

Other prompt collections will differ, but the same questions apply to any detailed prompt.

Before you paste: the content checklist

1. Brand and copy. Replace the example's company name, headline, menu items, prices and claims with your own approved text. Leave nothing from the example that a visitor could mistake for a fact about you.
2. Media. A prompt that links to hosted videos or images lets the preview render, but those files belong to someone else and can disappear. Use footage and images you made or have a licence for, and host them yourself.
3. Fonts. Check each named font's licence. Fonts from Google Fonts are openly licensed; some fonts linked from other font sites are demos or need a paid licence for websites.
4. Stack. If the prompt names React, Tailwind and Vite but your site runs on something else, say so in your request, or the tool may create a new project instead of changing yours.
5. Missing facts. Add one line: “Mark anything I have not supplied as missing information. Do not invent testimonials, numbers or logos.”

After the build: the review checklist

• Search the page for leftover example names, placeholder links and third-party media URLs.
• Open it at phone width: full-screen hero layouts often crop text or push the main action below the first screen.
• Check that the background video has a poster image and that the headline appears without waiting for it.
• Turn on reduced motion; the page should still read clearly with nothing moving on its own.
• Tab through every link and button and confirm each one goes somewhere real.

How do you turn a ready-made prompt into your own brief?

Keep the parts that describe layout, spacing, type hierarchy and motion, and replace the parts that describe content. A simple way is to paste the prompt into a text assistant with this request:
